Collapse

From the 3rd century to the 20th century, some of the exhibits are the only extant ones in the world. They include all the five famous kilns in China: Ru kiln, Guan kiln, Jun kiln, Ding kiln and Ge kiln.

Jun kiln is one of the five famous kilns in the Song Dynasty in Yu County, Henan Province. It is famous for Jun porcelain. It has not been handed down many times and has a high evaluation. There has always been a saying among the people that "even if there is a great family property, it is not as good as Jun porcelain". It belongs to the northern celadon system. It originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the late Northern Song Dynasty. Its golden age was about the period of Emperor Huizong (1101-1125) in the last years of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is unique for its colorful glaze.

Jun kiln porcelain is different from other celadon because of the intermingling of glaze colors, resulting in numerous kiln changes of different colors and shapes. The glaze colors of Jun kiln can be divided into two categories: blue and red. The specific colors can be white moon, azure, sky blue, green green, rose purple, crabapple red, carmine, eggplant purple, lilac, flame red, etc. Among them, blue is also different from the general celadon, is a variety of different shades of Blue Opal glaze. The lighter blue is called azure, the darker is called azure, and the lighter one is called Yuebai

Generally elegant blue luster.

Although the carcass of Jun kiln porcelain is not fine, even gray, and the dark color is almost brown, the fetal bone is hard. The glaze color is repeatedly applied, the glaze layer is thick, calm and greasy, and sometimes has flowing phenomenon, and the glaze surface often has twisted earthworm walking mud pattern. At that time, in addition to a small number of bowls, plates and other daily utensils, most of the imperial porcelain was made. The shape of the ware was regular and rigorous, the proportion was reasonable, and the center of gravity was more or less falling. Generally speaking, the porcelain of Jun kiln in Song Dynasty is simple and elegant, regular and atmospheric, the glaze layer is thick and calm, and the kiln changes are rich and harmonious,

As if

A lady like grace.

There are many Jun kilns and Jun glaze wares in the collection of the British Museum. Some of them are gradually put on for you to appreciate and learn.
